I’m a nerd by trade. I’m proud of it.
As a fun exercise, I put together a quick website at http://www.threeimportantnumbers.com. This sort of came from a long running “conversation” with a former co-worker about the only 3 important numbers in software engineering. Those 3 numbers are 0, 1, and infinity. The reasoning in short form looks something like this:
- 0 – You don’t do something.
- 1 – You do something just once.
- Infinity – You do something more than once. 2 times, 10 times, or 10,000 times should be the same.
I often think about how this applies to other parts of life and while I was throwing together the site I found myself thinking about how I would apply it to being a parent and it ended up making me laugh a little.
“Julianna, you can help cook dinner but we never put our hand on the stove. It is very hot and we don’t want you to get hurt.
“Chloe, I know you want to have a cookie right before dinner but you shouldn’t…well…maybe this one time. But never again.”
“Girls, we will always be nice to each other. We will always share our toys.”
I will never deny that I am a nerd and always will be.
Maybe my girls will be too.
